The Coral Beauty Angelfish is a pretty centropyge species that is very common in the marine aquarium hobby. They are a deep royal blue throughout their bodies while their chest and bellies have flame coloration and thin black vertical bars. They are found throughout the Indo-Pacific ocean and are collected in large numbers throughout the Phillipines.

There have been some reports pointing to the use of cyanide in Phillipine caught specimens that could attribute to the poor mortality rates with coral beauty angels from those areas. Fish caught with cyanide normally have brighter than normal colors and may do well for some time before inexplicably dying for no apparent reason.

They are a cheap Centropyge with prices ranging from $15 to $25 for a single specimen. The price and the fact that it is quite a beautiful fish has made the coral beauty angelfish a popular pick among saltwater aquarium hobbyists.

These fish are relatively peaceful compared to other members of the genus centropyge. However, they will always be aggressive towards other members of the genus and especially other coral beauty angels. Never put two members of the species in a small tank unless you want one of them to die due to harrasment and aggression.

The genus centropyge feed primarily on detritus, small crustaceans and algae. Despite this, the vast majority of them tend to accept most prepated foods in captivity. It is always important to offer a mix of both meaty and algae or spirulina best foods in the marine aquarium.

A good mix of meaty and vegetable matter is essential to the overall health of dwarf angels. Some other good foods to feed daily are * Sea Veggies Seaweed, which are nutritious seaweed for grazers. Prime Reef * Flake Food which is a blend of numerous seafood and algae such as seaweed, lobster meat, salmon, shrimp, squid and zooplankton.

The best dry pellet foods on the market come from the highly reputable makers, * New Life Spectrum. Use a * Seaweed Clip when feeding them seaweed sheets. Simply take a sheet, fold it and clip it. Secure the clip to the aquarium glass in a location of your choice and they should graze on it throughout the day. Centropyge species can nip on corals so be warned.

While a large aquarium such as a 100 gallon tank is recommended, they will do fine in a 50 gallon aquarium. They will cruise along your live rock structure looking for food items to pick off. Always quarantine new fish to avoid spreading diseases and parasites in the main aquarium.

Overall, the coral beauty angel is attractive and cheap. But you might want to be cautious with shipments that come from the Phillipines.
